In 2020, the Atlantic coast was the most important gateway of trade between the United States (U.S.) and the world. That year, merchandise worth 889.4 billion U.S. dollars was traded on this coast. Goods valued at 663.8 billion U.S. dollars were traded on the Pacific coast, underlining the importance of maritime transport for U.S. trade.
